Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival and Guided Sightseeing around Kathmandu (1,400 meters / 4,593 feet)

After a pre-trip meeting and introduction to your guide, we’ll begin our sightseeing with a private vehicle tour to UNESCO World Heritage Sites around Kathmandu Valley.

  • Pashupatinath Temple: One of the world’s most sacred Hindu temples, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Here, you’ll witness rituals on the banks of the holy Bagmati River, including live cremation ceremonies as locals believe that the soul moves on to another realm through this rite.
  • Boudhanath Stupa: Located 6 km from Kathmandu, this large stupa dates back to around 590–604 CE and houses relics of Buddha Kassapa. With its prayer wheels and many surrounding monasteries, it’s a vibrant center of Tibetan culture in Nepal.
  • Bhaktapur Durbar Square: A World Heritage Site, filled with historic temples, palaces, and monuments showcasing intricate wood carvings and Newari architecture.

Day 2 : Kathmandu to Paro (2,280 meters / 7,480 feet)

Your journey to Bhutan begins with a breathtaking flight over the Himalayas. Upon arrival in Paro, our Bhutanese guide will welcome you, and we’ll head to Thimphu. On the scenic drive, enjoy views of rice fields, hamlets, and the Paro and Thimphu rivers.

Day 3 : Sightseeing in Thimphu (2,334 meters / 7,657 feet)

Start the day with a visit to Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang), offering stunning views of the valley and a massive Shakyamuni Buddha statue. Explore the King’s Memorial Chorten, built in honor of Bhutan’s third king and symbolizing world peace.

Visit Textile and Folk Heritage Museums for a deep dive into Bhutanese culture. After lunch, see the National Library’s collection of ancient Buddhist manuscripts and the renowned Institute of Zorig Chusum (Painting School). In the evening, browse the local bazaar for unique souvenirs.

Day 4 : Thimphu to Wangdue via Dochu-La Pass (3,088 meters / 10,130 feet)

After an early breakfast, we will drive to Punakha through Dochu La, a scenic location adorned with colourful Tibetan prayer flags, a mani wall, and chortens. At 3,088 meters (10,130 feet), Dochu La is the highest point on today's journey. You can see many peaks here, including Masagang, Tesendagang, Terigang, Kangphugang, and Bhutan's highest peak, Gangkar Puensum (7,497 meters).

We will visit Punakha Dzong in the afternoon, the "Palace of Great Happiness." Built-in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal at the junction of the Mochu and Pochu rivers, this impressive fortress holds significant historical and cultural importance.

Later in the afternoon, we will visit Chimi Lhakhang, located in the centre of the valley and also known as the "Temple of Fertility." It is believed that couples who pray at this temple will be blessed with a child.

Day 5 : Wangdue to Gangtey Valley (2,900 meters / 9,514 feet)

After breakfast, we will travel to Gangtey, one of the most beautiful and scenic places in Bhutan. Our first stop will be Gangtey Gompa, the largest Nyingma monastery in Bhutan, perched atop a hill on the western side of the Black Mountains.

Next, we will explore Phobjikha Valley, the winter home of black-necked cranes that migrate here to escape the harsh conditions elsewhere. We will also visit the Black Necked Crane Information Center, located on the edge of the forest along the main road of Phobjikha Valley. The centre features an observation room equipped with high-powered telescopes and spotting scopes, allowing us to catch the best views of these magnificent birds.

Day 6 : Back to Paro via Simtokha Dzong (2,280 meters / 7,480 feet)

After breakfast, we will drive back to Paro, descending from Dochu La. Along the way, we will visit Simtokha Dzong, one of the oldest fortresses in Bhutan, renowned for its tantric teachings and its school dedicated to teaching the Dzongkha language.

Later in the day, we will visit Ta Dzong, a former watchtower that has been converted into the National Museum. The museum houses a collection of antique thangka paintings, weapons and armour, and textiles, showcasing the rich history of Bhutan.

Day 7 : Departure from Paro (2,280 meters / 7,480 feet)
