Overview of the Trip

This 7-day Tibet tour package lets you experience the breathtaking landscapes and vibrant cultural heritage of Tibet, often called the “Roof of the World.” Tibet is home to countless Buddhist monasteries, the majestic Himalayan mountains, and unique plateau landscapes. This trip offers a chance to explore high altitudes with a taste of colorful Buddhist culture. The journey begins in Lhasa, a renowned destination in Tibet with notable monasteries such as Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery. We start with a guided sightseeing tour around Lhasa, where we visit the Dalai Lama's Summer Palace, Norbulingka Park, Drepung Monastery, and Sera Monastery.

From Lhasa, we head to Gyantse, the third largest city in Tibet, with a rich history. Located at an altitude of 3,950 meters, Gyantse is situated in the Nyang Chu Valley. Before reaching Gyantse, we stop at Yamdrok Lake, one of the largest sacred lakes in Tibet at an altitude of 4,441 meters. At Gyantse, we visit the Karola Glacier, Gyantse Palcho Monastery, and Dzong fortress. Later, we visit the Pala Manor, a historic mansion showcasing the lifestyle of the Pala family, an upper-class family in Tibet. Next is Shigatse City, located at an altitude of 3,845 meters, home to Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, a significant Tibetan Buddhist monastery.

Concluding the trip, we head to Nyembo Tunba village, the birthplace of Tunmi Sangbusha, the inventor of the Tibetan script. Next, we see Nyethang Buddha, a beautifully crafted Buddha statue. After sightseeing, we return to Lhasa, marking the end of your trip to the "Roof of the World."

Day 1 : Arrival in Lhasa (3,656 m)

Arrive at Lhasa Gonggar International Airport, where our representatives from Red Rose Travels will greet you and transfer you to a 3-star hotel in Lhasa city. Since Lhasa is at a higher altitude, you'll spend the day resting to acclimate and avoid intense physical activity. You may take a gentle stroll around the city in the evening but should avoid alcohol due to the altitude and weather.

Day 2 : Guided Sightseeing in Lhasa (3,656 m)

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll begin sightseeing in Lhasa. Our first stop is Potala Palace, built at an altitude of 3,700 meters and known as the political and religious center of Tibet. The mesmerizing architecture of the white and red palace, adorned with Thangkas, Buddha statues, murals, and other religious artifacts, is a major attraction.

In the afternoon, we head to Jokhang Temple, one of the most sacred temples, housing a 12-year-old statue of Shakyamuni. The temple combines architectural styles from Tibet, China, Nepal, and India. The temple's roof offers beautiful views of Barkhor and Potala Palace. Witness Tibetan devotees in colorful outfits offering prayers and rotating around the temple.

Day 3 : Another Day of Sightseeing in Lhasa (3,656 m)

Today, we continue exploring Lhasa with more stops. We start at the Dalai Lama's Summer Palace and Norbulingka Park, the largest Tibetan garden, located 2 km east of Potala Palace. “Norbulingka” means "Treasure Garden," a lush 3.6-square-kilometer park with woodlands, ponds, and stunning architecture.

Then, we drive 5 km west to Drepung Monastery, one of Tibet's largest monasteries. With over 10,000 monks, Drepung was a major educational center for Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery boasts intricate thangka paintings, statues, and sculptures. You might catch monks meditating or pilgrims offering prayers. During the annual Shoton Festival, you can enjoy cultural performances, Tibetan yogurt, and opera.

Lastly, we visit Sera Monastery, renowned for its rich Buddhist culture and art. Observe monks engaging in philosophical debates in the monastery.

Day 4 : Drive from Lhasa (3,656 m) to Gyantse (3,977 m)

We drive from Lhasa to Gyantse, a 6-hour journey. Along the way, we stop at Yamdrok Lake, located at an altitude of 4,441 meters, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and small Tibetan villages.

Next, we visit Karola Glacier, at 5,045 meters, with its stunning white ice, resembling a Thangka hanging on the mountain wall. Once in Gyantse, we visit Gyantse Palcho Monastery and the Dzong fortress, with panoramic views of the town.

Day 5 : Drive from Gyantse (3,977 m) to Shigatse (3,845 m)

We visit Pala Manor, a luxurious mansion of the wealthy Pala family. Then, we drive to Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet, to visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, surrounded by a 3,000-meter wall and housing 58 chapels and 3,600 halls.

Day 6 : Drive from Shigatse (3,845 m) to Lhasa (3,656 m)

Today, we return to Lhasa, stopping at Nyemo Tunba, the birthplace of Tunmi Sangbusha, the inventor of Tibetan script. Then we visit Nyethang Buddha, a significant Buddhist statue.

Which currency can I use in Tibet? Can I use credit cards or ATMs?

Can I travel in Tibet independently?
