The Best Season to Trek to Gokyo and Renjo La Pass
The two prominent seasons to trek in Nepal are autumn (September to November) and spring (March to June). The Gokyo and Renjo La Pass trek offers you stunning views of the Himalayas in both autumn and spring. Autumn proves you perfect weather, no risk of rain, as well as magical views. But it doesn’t mean it has no flaws; the autumn season comes with increased crowds and potential flight difficulties as it is the festive and trekking season in Nepal.
Talking about spring, it offers warmer temperatures and fewer crowds. The temperature is very good for hiking, and the blooming wildflowers only add to the visual feast, making the trek even more memorable. But it also has its own flaws, like the fact that you need to be prepared for occasional snow at higher altitudes. The best season depends on you, and we suggest you take time to choose the one that suits your preferences.
Arrival and Visas
The airport team will help you with the visa procedure upon your arrival. To ensure a smooth transaction, we advise you to bring cash to get the visa (USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days, and USD 125 for 90 days) in no time, as the digital options might not be available.
After the completion of the visa procedure, our team from Red Rose will welcome you to the vibrant country of Nepal and drive you to your comfortable hotel.
Your daily routine during the trek
Every day on the trek starts early, followed by a delicious breakfast, which you will have with breathtaking sunrise views across the mountains. Then we will start hiking, which will be 5-7 hours long based on the destination and route. We have also added a rest day for you to explore charming villages and view points, immerse yourself in the unique culture, and, most importantly, adjust your body with increasing altitude. In the evening, we take our dinner in the communal dinner hall and sleep in guest houses throughout the trek.
Difficulty of the Gokyo and Renjo La Pass Treks
The Gokyo and Renjo La Pass trek is considered a challenging and demanding adventure through the Himalayas. It is also one of the most rewarding treks, be it for the natural scenery, the locals you will meet, the experience you will get, the fun you will feel, or the memories you will create.
The maximum altitude reached in the trek is a staggering 5383 metres at Gokyo Ri, where the air thins significantly. Hence, we recommend that our clients have moderate fitness and be physically and mentally prepared for a successful and enjoyable trek. The paths to Gokyo and Renjo La Pass treks will be full of varied terrain, steep climbs, and loose gravel; hence, we suggest you bring comfortable hiking boots with good grip.
Food and Accommodation
We at Red Rose Travels value your comfort the most; hence, throughout the trek, you’ll be accommodated in comfortable guesthouses that offer basic facilities, clean rooms, and simple bedding. We are aware of how important comfort is, particularly after a day of trekking, as is the significance of wholesome meals.
The accommodations in the villages will serve you with healthy, traditional dishes like dal bat and fresh vegetables, which we highly recommend you eat since they will help you adjust to the altitude. Also, you need to remember that additional purchases like hot drinks and extra meals are at your own expense. WiFi, electricity, and hot showers may charge you a nominal cost at higher altitudes, so be prepared to embrace a simpler way of life.
Altitude Sickness
As we ascend towards our destination, the Gokyo Ri, the air will only get thinner. The Gokyo Ri lies at a staggering altitude of 5383 metres, which is considered to be an altitude sickness-prone altitude. Rest days play an important role in adjusting to the increasing altitude while also ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
We highly recommend that you stay hydrated, take enough rest during the trek, and listen to your body. Your safety is our first priority, and we will be there to support you every step of the way.
